143-Gnosca

The Gnosca Observatory is dedicated to the study of the moving bodies of the solar system, especially minor planets, comets and artificial satellites. Recently also variable stars, transits of exoplanets and optical counterparts of GRBs added to the research job. The number “143” was assigned by the Minor Planet Center in the 1998. That year begun the astrometry work on minor planets.

“They are ill discoverers that think there is no land,

when they can see nothing but sea.”

Francis Bacon

The observatory organize a Digital Astronomy Course (Corso di Astronomia Digitale, CAD) in august every year devoted to the teaching of some concepts in astrometry and photometry. This course is intended for young students of the Ticino canton.

The observatory do also other measurements for didactical purposes (i.e.: the proper motion of nearby stars).

About 100nights/year are devoted to useful astronomy work.

The observatory is a private facility of Stefano Sposetti..
